The link between substance misuse and crime is well established. The NWPA is a key partner in a wide range of inter-agency strategies and initiatives associated with service development and delivery in this field. Further detail can be accessed under Partnerships.
Through programmes, the management of Drug Rehabilitation Requirements (DRRs), and the supervision of offenders on Community Orders / Prison Licences with requirements to address alcohol and drug problems (e.g. by way of a specified activity requirement), the NWPA is a significant provider of case management and interventions in this field.
It also operates as a significant commissioner of services through its membership of the Drug Interventions Programme (DIP) Board for North Wales, the Local Authority based Substance Misuse Action Team (SMAT), Community Safety Partnerships (CSPs), and Supporting People Planning Groups.
On the boundary with the DIP initiative, the NWPA is also one of the organisations constituting the consortium which has been commissioned to deliver the DIP contract in North Wales.
The NWPA through all of these networks is an active sponsor of the development in the area of an emerging user group structure.
