Our staff deal with offenders in the North Wales Area from their first court appearance until their sentence is completed. Our role is to implement the sentences handed out by the courts, rehabilitate offenders and so reduce re-offending and protect the public. We are accountable to the Ministry of Justice and work to National Standards.

The rehabilitation of offenders
We work in Courts, Prison and the Community. We co-operate with other criminal justice agencies, social services, youth, health, education and other voluntary and professional agencies to fulfil our responsibilities.
- In Courts we provide accurate information and expert advice to influence the sentencing decisions.
- In the Community we implement and enforce the community sentences passed by the courts
- In Prisons we work with prisoners in custody and after release on licence.
- We confront and challenge offenders' behaviour and attitudes by planning and delivering effective programmes aimed at changing offending behaviour.
- At all times, we make careful assessments of offenders risk of harm and risk of re-offending and work with other agencies to manage this risk in the community.
- If offenders do not comply with their Community Order, they are returned back to court and could face being resentenced. If they fail to keep their Licence conditions when they are released from custody, they are re-called back to prison.
- NWPAs Victim Unit work with victims of serious crime.
- We work with our partners and other agencies to help offenders with problems which contribute to their offending, for example drugs, alcohol, employment etc.
