The North Wales Probation Area’s Welsh Language Scheme was launched in the Justice Tent on the National Eisteddfod field in Bala this year.
The launch was led by Doris Adlam who was responsible for development of the Welsh language as part of her post as Performance and Planning Manager within the Probation Area. Doris thanked everyone who had contributed to the development of the Scheme, especially Lucie Owen from the North Wales Probation Area, Hywel Hughes from the Courts Service and Mike Raymant of North Wales Police. The Area was also grateful to Huw Gapper and Alun Jones of the Welsh Language Board for their support.
The presentation was opened by Geraint Jones, Chairman of the Bilingualism Advisory Committee and Member of the Probation Board. He spoke a little about the background of the Scheme and referred to its ambitious objectives and the important role of the Language Champions within the Probation Area.
The highlight of the launch was the special contribution of Christopher Williams, one of the service users who explained the importance of receiving service through the medium of his first language – Welsh.
The launch was concluded by Meri Hughes, Chair of the Welsh Language Board. She approved the Scheme and thanked the Area for its work and commitment in providing such a progressive scheme.
